F.I.A. Card Services is the charter name for Bank of America. We ARE Bank of America employees. Bank of America handles the credit cards for a lot of smaller or local banks. Obviously, any bank is technically our competition, so because of bank laws we cannot call you about your "Bank of Smalltown" credit card and say that we are from Bank of America. This is when we use the name FIA Card Services. This name comes up on all caller IDs because we use the same employees and phone lines for all of our customers, even those who don't realize they are doing business with Bank of America. The 800 number does NOT call the actual representative who called you. Most of the time, the rep who called you is using an outward calling line than cannot receive inward calls. This is how large call centers work; we are not in the corner office at your local branch. This is why when you call the 800 number there is "no record of us trying to reach you", because the people answering at that 800 number are different people than the ones calling you. As for people not leaving messages: We are required by law to leave 4 pieces of information if we say one of them. Our name, the bank name, a brief reason for calling, and our phone number. We say there is no message because it's easier than saying all of that on every call. If you ask who is calling, we WILL tell you, but be prepared to listen to all of it... Just as you don't like being hung up on, we don't either. If the caller says: "It's a courtesy call" it actually is. It is NOT a sales call, otherwise that is what we would say. We call customers about newly opened cards to explain their benefits and rewards programs and see if they have any questions or issues, that's what a courtesy call is. As for callers not telling spouses what the call is about: This is because of privacy laws. If your name is not on our screen when we call, we can LITERALLY be sued for disclosing ANY information about the nature of the call. We cannot say "account", "credit card", "business" or anything that even hints at the fact that the person we called about even knows who we are. Believe me, it's just as frustrating for us because we could avoid a lot of anger if we were just allowed to tell you what it's about and be done. All of this being said, Bank of America (or FIA Card Services) will NEVER ask you to tell us your full account number (we may ask to verify the last 4 digits if we are trying to resolve an issue, but we will have that info and simply ask if it is correct). We will never ask for your social security number (but if you want someone to be an authorized user or co-applicant on your account with you, we must ask for the other person's info). There have been scam e-mails circulating asking customers for this kind of info, you can report those e-mails to us by forwarding them to abuse@bankofamerica.com. I hope this helps to clear some things up!
